Center for Computational Relativity and Gravitation

Capabilities

Using mathematical modeling and simulation, and advanced computation and visualization, the Center for Computational Relativity and Gravitation facilitates the following research:

• General relativity and gravitation, with application to gravitational wave physics and relativistic astrophysics

• Numerical relativity and source modeling, primarily modeling astrophysical sources of gravitational radiation, such as the inspiral and merger of binary black holes and neutron stars

• Relativistic magneto-hydrodynamics, including the merger of neutron stars, gravitational core collapse and supernovae, supermassive black-holes, and their accretion disks

• Gravitational wave theory, data analysis, and experiments

• Cyberinfrastructure, with an emphasis on high-performance computing, visualization, and open source software development for astrophysics and gravitational wave science

• Active galactic nuclei, galactic dynamics, and N-body simulation

 

Equipment

The CCRG is comprised of several computing facilities located in close proximity to the researchers’ offices. These facilities include two large research computing clusters that are fully dedicated to project-specific tasks. There are also several servers and desktops, a monitor for scientific visualization, and tens of terabytes of common storage.
