Export Control

Federal Export control laws, mostly codified in the Department of Commerce's Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the Department of State's International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), have been in place for more than twenty years. All US business and their employees must comply with these laws and regulations.  The government takes these laws very seriously - sanctions for violations can include steep fines and prison sentences.

Since 9/11/2001, scrutiny of compliance with export control regulations has heightened greatly. All researchers and educators at RIT need to understand their obligations under these regulations.

Export Control regulations cover virtually all fields of science and engineering.  Certain technologies and information are further "license-controlled" for reasons of national security or trade protection.
