NSF Partnerships for Innovation - Building Innovation Capacity

NSF's latest Program Solicitation for PFI:Building Innovation Capacity (12-578) is available at http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2012/nsf12578/nsf12578.htm

The PFI: BIC program starts with an existing sound scientific and/or engineering-based research discovery that can be translated through a partnership between academe and small businesses to potentially market-valued solutions and to enhance the innovation capacity of the partners. The funds will provide support to an academic institution to partner with at least two small technology-based businesses that are not in direct competition with each other to carry out early translational-research activities

PI Limit:

The PI cannot be a PI on a Partnership for Innovation award that will be active after September 30, 2013.

A PI who submits a proposal in response to this program solicitation may not also submit a proposal to the Partnerships for Innovation: Accelerating Innovation Research (PFI: AIR) program

Limit on Number of Proposals per Organization: 1

Lead academic institutions are limited to participation on one proposal as a lead institution. A lead academic institution may NOT participate as a subawardee on any other proposal submitted under this solicitation. A lead academic institution, however, may be a partner (not receiving funding)on another proposal or may provide consultants to another proposal submitted under this solicitation.

Preliminary Proposals 

In a preliminary proposal of no more than two pages, provide an overview of the existing sound scientific and/or engineering-based research discovery that can be translated to market-valued solutions through a partnership between academe and small technology-based businesses.

Letters of Intent are required by NSF and due by 5 p.m. on September 26, 2012.  Full proposals are due by 5 p.m. on December 12, 2012.
