The Center for Emerging & Innovative Sciences (CEIS) utilizes New York State funding to support company-sponsored research conducted by Principal Investigators (PIs) at the University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology, and other regional universities. CEIS support is limited to research funded by companies that have an operational presence in New York and will be able to leverage the results of that research to make an economic impact in the state. CEIS supports applied research and development projects primarily in the fields of optics, photonics, and imaging, but in recent years the Center has expanded its scope to include bio-medical technology, electronics, and energy. The research projects may apply to any of a diverse variety of commercial products and services.
CEIS offers two different funding programs:
The Collaborative Innovation Research (CIR) program funds up to $30,000 and requires at least a 2:1 company match. Proposals are due May 12, 2014. Information and proposal forms are available at http://www.ceis.rochester.edu/funding/CIRP.html
The Short Term Applied Research (STAR) program is for smaller, more focused research. This program provides up to $5,000 on a 1:1 match. More information and proposal forms are available at http://www.ceis.rochester.edu/funding/STAR.html
