The Ballroom Team was formed in 2003, when we recognized the need for a separate organization for those interested in competing. The founding members had been competing on their own, and decided that competitions would be much more fun if they could represent RIT's Ballroom Club instead of themselves as individuals, with a whole team full of people to cheer each other on! We took the first official team to UPenn's competition in February 2004.
In January 2005, Tim & Alana O’Neil, former amateur competitive dancers who had formerly studied under Peter Billett, our first advisor, and Tonya Kornylo, formerly a member of RPI’s competitive Ballroom Team, joined us as coaches to help us improve and fine tune our dance skills. In the spring of 2006, Mariana Katlyarskaya came aboard to help us with formal lessons.
With each passing quarter we see a great improvement in the entire team's dancing, and our placings at competition reflect a growing & improving team!
