About
Founded by Nicolás Rubio, an international student from Venezuela, in March 1997, Global Union (GU) has prevailed as the main Major Student Organization (MSO) to represent the distinct cultures that flourish in the campus of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). The academic year 2008-2009 will mark Global Union's eleventh successive year.
Global Union will continue to serve its original purpose: to promote understanding of diversity and the development of a strong multicultural movement within the community and to create awareness of global and international issues while encouraging interaction, understanding, and union among all the different ethnic groups that converge in RIT. Constituting over 1,500 international and American students, and fifteen affiliate clubs, Global Union, as the umbrella organization, will also continue representing the interests of all of its affiliates and members before the RIT Student Government.
Global Union has undergone a major transformation in the past year to adapt to the increasing number of international students and clubs. We have become more proactive in our approach to reaching out to our members and getting them involved with various student activities. Not only have we continued with the various traditional events, but also started various other workshops, forums and festivals to spread our cultural wealth amongst the American students.
If you are interested in establishing a new cultural club or restoring a prior existing cultural club, feel free to contact Global Union at ritglobalunion@gmail.com. If you are interested in establishing a Global Union chapter in your university or college, also contact the same email address.
As the president, I look forward to another great year.
