IV Newsletter 1.8

October 23rd, 2007

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Welcome to the great, the magnificent, the one and only Week 8 InterVarsity Newsletter!

Outline:

  1. Expedition (rides, anyone?)
  2. Large Group
  3. Service Night & Jubilee
  4. Thanks!

1. Expedition

There is still time to register for Expedition. It’s a weekend retreat with IV chapters from across upstate NY. In the past three years of IV fall retreats I’ve had three very different but incredibly fun and life-transforming experiences. The details:

  • Departure. We will be meeting at 5:00pm this Friday Oct. 26 to carpool. Please email me to let me know if you need a ride or can give one. The drive takes about 1.5 hours (2 if you’re prone to getting lost). Also let me know if you will not be able to leave by 5:00pm.
  • Return. Return will be sometime early Sunday afternoon. Send me an email if you have questions.
  • Cost. Total cost is $120. The necessary deposit is $50. Money should not be a factor in preventing anyone from attending Expedition. Please have the humility to talk to Nicole about scholarships and payment deferral options.
  • Stuff. Please visit this page for “what to bring” and other details.

2. Large Group

Due to Expedition, there is no regular Large Group meeting this week. Stay tuned for Large Group week 9. The Search for Community continues on November 2 with “What happens when community fails?” 7pm in Webb Auditorium.

3. Service Night & Jubilee.

Our quarterly week 10 service night will look a bit different than the last few years. We will be staying on campus to focus on serving RIT. Information about specific projects (including the ever-popular bathroom cleaning, cookies for crap, and more) will be on the website shortly.

Service Night will begin at 6:30pm on Friday, November 9 in 08-1250. At 9:00pm we will reconvene for some pizza and Jubilee in NRH 1250. We will be taking donations to cover the cost of the pizza, and any extra will be used for our upcoming missions projects.

Jubilee will be very different than it was last time. We’re planning to have a few people share stories of God’s work in their lives through service night and in the last month in general. We’ll spend some time singing and praying, and we’ll be officially discussing the brand-new Chapter Involvement and Service Diagram. Discussing it at Servant Team meeting last night brought a joy and excitement to us that was Basileia-esque. The diagram is not a secret, in fact if you ask any member of Servant Team we’ll be more than happy to give you a preview. But Jubilee will provide a time for us to discuss the way our chapter can function best to see Students and Faculty Transformed, Campuses Renewed, and World-Changers Developed.

4. “If you have any questions, call Information. Thanks for calling.”

[this one's worth ten points]

Thanks to everyone who participated in our first Faculty Appreciation Week! Since the response was positive and this kind of interaction between students and faculty hits the vision directly, we’re planning to make Faculty Appreciation Week a quarterly event.

Grace and Peace,

I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.
