Winter is coming.
December 5th, 2007
It’s past time for a new blog post, and there are exciting things to tell you about.
If you got the Newsletter , you know we’re gearing up to start a bunch of GIGs (God Investigation Groups) in January. I firmly believe that anyone can lead a GIG. It’s a matter of coming together with one or two or three other people (primarily people who wouldn’t call themselves Christians, but are curious about Jesus and true spirituality) and looking at what the Bible has to say about who Jesus was and what he did. There are a lot of ideas about Jesus that don’t really fit with the man whose story is told in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, and many of them are out there because of Christians. A GIG is a great opportunity to learn more about Jesus together with someone who has an entirely different perspective.
Outreach Team is also working hard on a January New Student Outreach. This second version will be much improved from the fall. We did too many events, and only some of them were effectual. Lessons learned, we move forward with events like a debate with the RIT Skeptics Club, and a Guitar Hero/Settlers of Catan tourney. Enchanting titles, I’m sure.
Here’s an inside look at what’s been going on in Servant Team. We’ve recognized the need for more prayer within our meetings. After all, God must be the guiding force behind our efforts. Without Him, we are nothing. We treasure this command, and the attached promise: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” ~Joshua 1:9 In addition to praying more as a team, I’m in the process of putting together a “prayer team.” If you’re interested in serving the chapter through prayer, let me know.
Scripture memory is also something that we feel is important for our team. We’ll be memorizing verses together from the chapters that small groups are studying. Next week is Acts 2, so each of us has a different sentence of v.42-47. Together, we’ll be able to recite the whole thing.
Grace and Peace,
