RIT InterVarsity Christian Fellowship

IV Newsletter 2.2

December 12th, 2007

InterVarsity family and friends,I don’t know about the rest of you, but it’s only week 2, and it already seems like the quarter is moving quickly!

Outline:

  • Large Group & GIGs (08-1250 this week!)
  • Gracie’s trays are NOT valid sleds
  • Debate, books for shirts

1. This week at Large Group (Friday, 7pm, 08-1250)

Our very own Nicole Page discusses GIGs and what it means to open the Bible with people who are not Christians. I believe this could be one of the most challenging Large Group meetings of the year. I think how we respond as a chapter to the challenge of GIGs will in a very real way impact our effectiveness in accomplishing the vision: students and faculty transformed, campuses renewed, and world-changers developed.

For those who are interested in potentially leading a GIG, there will be GIG training this Saturday at 10am, in NRH 1250. You’ll hear more about that on Friday, but if you can’t make it to Large Group (I hear rumors of some concert or something, which saddens me to some extent, because Large Group is going to be so awesome) and you have the slightest interest in God Investigation Groups, get in touch with Val and come out on Saturday morning.

2. Winter New Student Outreach

Our January version of NSO will include exciting activities like a Guitar Hero/Settlers of Catan tourney, another (bigger and better) New Student Retreat, a Campus Prayer Walk (with other RIT fellowships!), hot chocolate on the quarter mile, a Debate with the RIT Skeptics (see below), and of course what is January without Sledding! As far as sledding goes, there are three key ingredients: snow, incline, and sleds. God provides the snow, outreach team picks the hill, and you provide the sleds. Pick one up over Christmas break and bring it back to school with you.

3. That’s debatable.

The Debate will be happening Friday of week 5, in place of our regular Large Group meeting. Meetings are underway with the Skeptics Club and our debate moderator, Professor Meredith. The debate teams will be panels of three students. Daron, Drew, and Val will be representing us, but they are looking for help with the preparation. If are interested in helping with the debate in any way, get in touch with Chelsea.

Thank you to those who bought shirts last week to go towards some literature that we would like to provide for those interested after the debate. One $10 T-shirt provides a book to one person interested in logical arguments for God and Christianity. The Skeptics Club thought it was cool that we will be having literature, and are looking into bringing some of their own. T-shirts will be on sale at LG again this week, and then once more at the Christmas party the following Friday.

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Grace and Peace,
