1. Knitting for the Needy.
Tonight in Gracie’s Lobby from 7-9pm. Just bring yourself. We have needles and yarn (and instructors for everyone who doesn’t know how to knit!), and you get to provide a scarf for a very cold person in Rochester.
2. Follow-up from the debate is in full swing.
While there are a few things we can do as a whole to follow-up, we will be most effective through individual and team efforts to reach people. Please talk you people you know about the debate. This is a prefect opportunity to discuss spiritual things while the campus is already talking about them.
Insert on “individual outreach” (m a t t ’s personal thoughts): While we stress outreach as a largely individual effort, I think it should be noted that we are to be the body of Christ, each of us has a role, each of us is made differently. I think that we should be stressing outreach as a community effort. As I reach out to my friends it is huge to have the prayer support of my brothers and sisters, and to be able to talk to them about my attempts at declaring the gospel with boldness and clarity as God provides opportunity. Outreach should not feel like a lonely venture.
..and m a t t steps off the soap box.
3. Answer questions!
The Skeptics have answered many of the questions posed to them at the debate here. Servant and Outreach Teams are working on composing clear, concise, and theologically accurate answers to some of the difficult questions posed to us. While we work on that, we thought it would be great to open it up to any of you who are interested in helping to provide answers. Please visit our debate page and add to the answers that have already been provided. We need your help! No answer will be posted until Tim or I review it, and we reserve the right to make edits for clarification. This is a huge way that you can help people who are genuinely seeking God to understand Him a bit more!
4. Large Group
This Friday’s Large Group meeting will be on “Does what you believe about humanity matter?” 7pm, Webb Auditorium.
5. Winter Student Retreat.
After Large Group we are hosting a free overnight retreat for any students who are interested in getting to know IV leadership better. Most of Servant Team, Outreach Team, and some Small Group Leaders will be around in this very casual environment. We will caravan from Large Group to Parkminster (a local church) where we will stay the night. We will return to campus at about 9:30 Saturday morning. You are welcome to come for all or part of the retreat.
6. Night Sledding!
Our rescheduled sledding trip will be this Saturday (1/26) at highland park at 8:00pm. Meet at Gracie’s at 7:40 to carpool.
7. Invisible Children
We’re partnering with the Invisible Children Club for a week of events when the I.C. Roadies come back to Rochester in the spring. One of the things they’re doing is setting up a gallery of art about Africa in the 1829 room. If you have any artistic ability and would like to show your support for the Invisible Children movement please consider submitting a work or art for the gallery.
8. Nominations
It’s the time of year to begin thinking about who should be running RIT IV next year. the Nomination Committee is already forming, and next week we will be providing a way for you to submit your nominations. NomCom (made up of a few graduating seniors) compiles and reviews the nominations of the entire chapter as they prayerfully work out who to ask for specific leadership positions) Please consider this over the next week.
9. Apartment renewals
Apartment renewals are coming up soon! we want to help you find a great roommate, so an apartment needed/desired list will be available outside Large Group this week. WE may also have something on the website to help connect people who need/want apartments with people who need apartment mates, but no promises.
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any double edges sword. It penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Grace and Peace,
