IV Newsletter 2.4

January 6th, 2009

It’s Winter New Student Outreach! Which means we have lots going on this week…

  1. Dodgeball
  2. Hot chocolate, granola bars, and tables
  3. Desserts
  4. Epiphany Dinner
  5. Servant Team nominations
  6. Large Group
  7. Upcoming events:
    1. Man-over
    2. Slurp and Burp
    3. Town Meeting
    4. Big House
    5. InterVarsity Leadership Summit

1. Come play dodgeball tonight at 8 PM in the Dodgeball Room in the SLC. Apartment Small Group Cluster is hosting. Bring a friend. It should be fun.

2. We’re handing out free hot chocolate and granola bars Friday morning from 7-10:30 AM by the Building 7 underpass and by Clark Gym. Come help us or tell your friends to walk that way. We’re also greeting people in the SAU lobby from 11 AM-2 PM Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Stop by and say “hi” to us or with us.

3. Who doesn’t like dessert? Exactly. That’s why you should bring your friends to one of the four apartments giving out free dessert Wednesday night at 8 PM. The apartments are: 137 A with cupcakes, 185 D with brownies, 189 B with cookies, and 189 C with rice krispie treats. There is something for everyone. Even your roommate.

4. Thursday at 6 PM in SDC 1300/1310 we are having an Epiphany Dinner, which entails: free chili dinner and discussions about why we are here and what we believe. This is the perfect event to invite someone you met from dodgeball or desserts or that friend you’ve always wanted to have a deeper conversation with.

5. Think and pray about who should be on Servant Team next year and come ready to nominate people on Friday at Large Group.

6. This Friday we’ll be hearing from Brian Haak about Finishing Well: Preparing for God Knows What. Large Group is in Building 8, 1250 at 7 PM like usual.

7. Plan for the following:

  1. Next Friday, the 16th, after IV we’re having the first ever Man-Over and by us I mean you guys. Lazer Quest and then all night (?) fun at Open Door Church. If you’re a guy planning on going, let Mr. Matthew Marsh know at Large Group this week so he can get a head count for the laser tag. If you’re a girl planning on going, see below:
  2. Ladies, you know all of those things we can’t do with guys around? Yup. We’re doing them, with no guys around. Mark says I can’t say what they are. But it will be fun. We’ll be sleeping over at a local church, as well (just not Open Door ;) .
  3. Our next town meeting will be after Large Group on January 30th. Come ready to revisit goals and be a part of making new ones.
  4. Big House (CAB calls it Praise Night) will be at 10 PM on January 30th in the RITz. Worship God with Agape, BASIC, BCM, Campus Crusade, and InterVarsity . Free pizza and wings!
  5. Not just for leaders, InterVarsity Leadership Summit on Saturday, January 31st, is an opportunity for you to grow as a Christian through one of the following tracks: Spiritual Gifts, Evangelism, Small Group Leaders, or Servant Leaders. It costs $10 but lunch is provided. We’ll leave for the University of Buffalo campus at 7:30 AM and get back around 6 PM.

Now when all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and all the Canaanite kings along the coast heard how the LORD had dried up the Jordan before the Israelites until we had crossed over, their hearts melted and they no longer had the courage to face the Israelites.

See you around!
