7. Jess Jordan, one of the TAVA small group leaders, writes the following:
So last night [Monday] was truly a blessing for me. I had heard some talk about President Destler coming but was not sure that he would actually show up. Then just as we opened up our bibles to get into Joshua 6, in walks the big man himself. It was really cool to see how interested he was in what a “small group” actually does. We read around and Destler participated in reading the scripture when it came to his turn. As we went into our discussion, you could tell his mind was stirring. He asked questions about the significance of the number 7 and the killing of everyone and the animals after the fall of the wall of Jericho. We had a great discussion on how the Scripture related to events in our life. We also had a deep discussion of how the old testament differs from the new testament and how Jesus made all that possible. Dr. Destler is a Unitarian Universalist but last night he got a big ole spoon full of the gospel. Because it was getting late he left before closing prayer. I am so glad that he came and I hope that the brief exposure to TAVA was influential in transforming his soul and this campus. I was filled with joy to have been part of the evening.
“Then the LORD said to Joshua, ‘See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men.’ ”
