IV Newsletter 1.0
August 22nd, 2008
Hello everyone!
Welcome back to RIT and another year of seeing ourselves, our fellow classmates, and our faculty transformed, RIT renewed, and future leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, scientists, teachers, pastors, parents get equipped, encouraged, and pushed to effect change in the world. We give glory to a God who does infinitely more than what we ask Him for or can imagine Him to do according to His power at work within us. I am excited to see how He exceeds your and my expectations this year.
Saturday, August 30th
As you may have anticipated based on the heading, Saturday, August 30th is an important date that you should remember and eagerly anticipate. Saturday, August 30th, will be InterVarsity’s inaugural meeting for the 2008-2009 school year. This will be an opportunity to catch up with everyone, learn about New Student Outreach plans and follow up, and pray for the upcoming year. We will be meeting in the Skalny Room (basement of the Interfaith Chapel) at 2 PM.
New Student Outreach
Allison Smith, Summer InterVarsity, and other volunteers have been working hard on planning our Fall New Student Outreach. However, reaching students is not just about hosting cool parties and giving away free food. We want students to meet Jesus through genuine connections with Christians and we need your help to make it happen. As a result, follow up with students will look a little different than it has in the past. If you are interested in being involved or have any questions, please reply to this email. We will discuss the whys and hows of follow up at our kick off meeting at 2 PM on Saturday, August 30th.
Prayer
The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective (James 5:16) and Jesus said that if two of us gather in His name and agree about what we ask for, He will be there and He will do it (Matthew 18:19-20). We invite you to see these scriptures come true in your life. Although we do not have all of the details hammered out, we are planning to implement several opportunities for prayer for our chapter such as prayer for Large Group and a prayer team for needs sent to our new ritprays@gmail.comprayer request email . If you are interested in praying, contact me.
Blitzkrieg
On a related note, every year during Orientation week we have had the tremendous privilege of joining with fellow Christian groups on campus in strategic prayer for incoming freshman and the upcoming year. This year’s Blitzkrieg will take place Monday-Friday, August 25-August 29 from 11 AM- 1 PM in Perkins 185 D (my apartment). If you would like to be a part of expanding God’s kingdom on our campus through prayer with His body, please contact me to be added to our daily updates as we may prayer walk some days weather permitting.
I look forward to seeing you all again,
Arricka Nowland
and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
