About Us

The RIT Kendo Club is a student run organization that educates its members in the ancient Japanese art of swordsmanship. Founded in 2001, the club is open to all students, faculty, and anyone with an interest in Kendo. The RIT Kendo Club emphasizes that the study of Kendo does not solely train a practitioner on how to use a sword. Strong friendships, discipline, fitness and much more are gained through the study of Kendo!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

We have been invited to the Cornell Kendo Tournament! To be held September 22-23. Email the club if you are interested in attending. ADVANCED MEMBERS WHO WEAR ARMOR are strongly encouraged to participate. New members are free to come observe and cheer us on;) I need to know ASAP!!!

Please send us your university ID if you have not already. To go along with this, you can get wellness credit for Kendo! RIT requires 2 wellness activities, participating the in the Kendo Club can give you 1 (but not both) and you only need to participate for a quarter. Simply email us indicating you want this option.

To the hard of hearing and deaf students: please go to MyAccess.rit.edu and request an interpreter or email Jennifer M. Horak at JMHDIS@rit.edu. Everyone who needs the service should do it; don't worry about overlap. We really appreciate the diversity the deaf/hard of hearing community brings to our club so please do this.

Advanced members: Send me your email addresses so I can make a email group with information about advanced practice, tournaments and testing!

So if any members or anyone interested at all has idea, sketches, concept, etc. let us know. Our contact information is on the site.

This site has gotten a facelift! Ben (President) as already corrected come errors, but if you see any more please let us know through any of the contact methods listed on the contact page.

First off, It's been a while since I've had a chance to add any news.

This past weekend, 3/25, we participated in the first ever Western NY Kendo Tournament, held by University of Buffalo's Kendo Club. About 50 people from UB Kendo Club, Buffalo Kendo Club, Rochester Kendo Club, University of Rochester Kendo Club, RIT Kendo Club, and some nearby Canadian clubs participated. There were divisions for mudansha (1-kyu and below), 1-dan & 2-dan, 3-dan and above, women's, and teams. We competed in mudansha and teams. (pictures soon, I hope)

Results:
Mudansha 1st place - Sho Furukawa
Mudansha 2nd place - Dave Huynh
Mudansha 3rd place - Hao Yan
Teams 2nd place - RIT

Everyone did very very well in some very tough matches. We'll give the same effort at Yale this weekend.

Also, 2 new people just passed the bogu test. Congratulations to:
Paul Guo - passed 3/13
Petros Yeung - passed 3/20
