Benefits of Membership

If you're not sure if you want to join Photo House, here are some of the benefits of membership:

•   24/7 Access to Studio, Darkroom, Print Finishing Room, Gallery, Lounge, & Kitchen
•   Gallery Shows
•   House Sponsored Lectures
•   On-floor Academic Support
•   Photo House Yearbook
•   Photo House T-Shirt

Along with everything mentioned above, Photo House has a great social atmosphere. Walking through the halls you'll find doors open with smiling faces of all sorts of majors. Granted, about 80% of our members are photographers, there are also interpreting majors, engineering majors, computer science majors, and more. There are social events planned all the time, big and small. We'll take trips to the movies, or hold a movie night in the lounge. We'll have a bbq outside or take a trip down to Letchworth Park on a Sunday afternoon.

Photo House isn't all just social though. We help out the community by working with organizations like Foodlink or Macy's. We also volunteer to send photographers to different organizations around Rochester. Every member is required to contribute just a few hours a quarter to helping the community.

On-Floor Membership vs. Off-Floor Membership

On-floor members live in the dorms in Nathaniel Rochester Hall on floor 4. On-floor members as well as off-floor members enjoy all of the benefits listed above. Off-floor members can live anywhere they want, and still have access to the floor. Off-floor members participate in the same events and are held to the same requirements of on-floor members.

Still Confused?

If you're still not sure if Photo House is right for you, you can attend one of RIT's many Fall Open Houses or Accepted Student Open Houses, and we'll be glad to give you a quick tour of our facilities and a quick overview of the perks of being a student at RIT as a Photo House member.
