About SEAL

So....what the heck is SEAL?

Do you care about the environment? We do, too!

The Student Environmental Action League is made up of RIT students who are environmentally-minded and want to make a difference in the Rochester community by developing awareness of environmental issues and performing volunteer work.

SEAL's most popular and well-known event during the academic year is E-Cycling (previously called "E-Waste"). During this time, we collect old electronics (computers, printers, etc.) from the RIT community and turn them over to Maven Technologies for proper recycling. Unsurprisingly, we are able to gather several thousand pounds worth of electronics and stop them from entering local landfills! That's a lot of trash!

In the 2007-2008 school year, SEAL tried out a few brand new events! We hosted a game show testing the environmental knowledge of RIT students, and we also set up our own version of the TV series Project Runway, where participants created outfits out of post-consumer products. Pretty cool, huh?

Some of the volunteer work the club has participated in includes International Coastal Cleanup and Rochester's Clean Sweep program. During both of these particular events, we teamed up with other people from the area and picked up garbage off the ground. It's a dirty job (well, not really), but somebody's gotta do it!
