Here are some tips on reducing waste and energy use at RIT!
- While grocery shopping (either on or off campus), use cloth bags to hold your items instead of having the store provide you plastic bags.
- Do all of your driving errands at one time to avoid multiple trips.
- Carpool with others when heading off campus.
- Replace your traditional incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent (CFL) ones.
- Read articles on a computer rather than printing them out.
- Make use of RIT's shuttle system to get around campus.
- Call maintenance right away to fix leaky pipes.
- Print double-sided when you are at a computer lab.
- Bring your own mug when purchasing a drink on campus. Many places will offer you a discount for doing so.
- Don't leave the water running while you are brushing your teeth or washing the dishes.
- Turn off the lights when you leave a room.
- Read articles on the computer instead of printing them out.
- Only the washer or dishwasher with a full load.
- Turn off computers and other peripherals (speakers, etc.) at night.
- Unplug devices you're aren't using from the outlet. Even though they're turned off, they still draw power from being plugged in.
