About Signatures
Signatures Magazine is the Rochester Institute of Technology’s resident literary and art magazine. Established in the 1960′s as Symposium, the name was changed to “Signatures” in the mid-1980s. Each year, the staff decides on a theme and creates a magazine with innovative print or packaging schemes such as foil printing or die cuts which has earned them such accolades as the Gold Crown Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. The magazine features literary, photographical, digital and traditional art by students.
Sam Abrams and Mark Price were the longest serving of the advisors, who also included, at one time or another, Robert G. Koch, Erik Timmerman, Norris Shea, Robert Golden, and, in 1985, the noted visiting poet Joel Oppenheimer.
The last several years have seen a growing technical sophistication in the production of RIT publications, as students take advantage of the revolution in digital print technologies. In recent years, Signatures magazine has been printed on campus, at the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences’ Printing Applications Lab. It is housed in the English department and supported by the Institute Creative Arts Fund, the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences, the B. Golisano College of Computing & Information Sciences, and Student Government at RIT.
This new web magazine is intended to showcase student film, animation, drama, and music, in addition to the writing and visual art long featured in RIT publications. We’d like to thank Professor Dan Bogaard for making it possible, and Professor Patti Ambrogi for allowing us to showcase student videos from her “Media Café” collection.
