RIT SportsZone debuted in 2002 as a collaboration between ESPN, Time Warner Cable, and RIT. The student-run organization, led by directors Mark Fragale and Kevin Roche, produced a 30-minute sports television show in an effort to create more exposure for the university’s athletic programs. SportsZone aired throughout New York State on Time Warner Cable for fourteen seasons, and was consistently recognized as one of the best sports programs in the nation. In 2012 SportsZone earned “Best Newscast” honors with a College Emmy Award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Foundation.
Since its inception, RIT SportsZone has grown exponentially, expanding from a single sports program to a multi-media production ensemble, which now includes SportsZone LIVE, SportsZone Pregame, SportsZone All Access, and SportsZone In-House.
RIT SportsZone is located on the A-Level (A-601) of The Wallace Center.
RIT SportsZone Pregame LIVE debuted in the Fall of 2016. The 30-minute hockey broadcast airs prior to all men’s home games. SZ Pregame LIVE offers Tiger fans the most comprehensive, in-depth look inside the program, with features, LIVE interviews and more.
RIT SportsZone LIVE has broadcast all men’s hockey home games since 2008. Gene Battaglia and John DiTullio handle the play-by-play duties. SportsZone LIVE produces and airs nearly 30 LIVE events each year, including select women’s hockey and men’s lacrosse games.
RIT SportsZone In-House has provided a first class in-game experience for fans since the state-of-the-art Gene Polisseni Center opened in 2014. Director Rachel Conidaris and her student staff produce all content for the two high definition video boards, including promotions, statistics, and a LIVE game feed.
RIT SportsZone All Access is your source for SZ’s award-winning features and behind the scenes coverage of student-athletes, coaches, clubs and events at RIT. SportsZone All Access content is available on our digital platforms.
