Staff Council is an advisory body to the administration on issues and decisions which impact the university. Representatives communicate to staff and act as a conduit providing their feedback and insights on university issues. We hope to see many of our RIT Staff wearing orange and showing their RIT Tiger pride at the opening events for the 2017-2018 events! The Convocation for New Students and Families will be held Wednesday, August 23, at 11 a.m. in the Gordon Field House and Activities Center. Participants in the Tiger Walk, which precedes the Convocation, will greet our new students beginning at 10:30 a.m. just outside the east doors of the Gordon Field House and Activities Center.

Pedestrian safety task force
President Destler formed the Pedestrian Safety Task Force as a result of Staff Council constituent concerns regarding use of bikes and longboards on the Quarter Mile.
Accelerated implementation of smoking policy
Staff Council worked with other governance groups including Academic Senate and Student Government to eliminate the 3-year waiting period for implementation proposed in the revised version of C 16.0 Tobacco-Restricted University Policy.
Eric Pope, director of fraternity and sorority life, was selected to receive Alpha Sigma Alpha's Outstanding Fraternity & Sorority Advisor Award for his service to the fraternal community at RIT.
David Edborg, patrol major for Public Safety, deadlifted 479.8 pounds at the World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters' U.S. National Championship, breaking his previous New York state record.
Maria Richart, associate director for International Outreach, Career Services Coordinator, and the Global Experience team won the "Innovative New Program: Intern Abroad" award at the 20th Annual GoAbroad Innovation Award ceremony.
Stephanie Thompson, senior data scientist, and Richard Dirmyer, assistant vice president of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Strategy at NTID, were invited panelists and paper presenters for SAS Global Forum 2017 in Orlando, Fla.
