Representatives communicate to staff and act as a conduit providing their feedback and insights on university issues. Staff Council Contributions to RIT Governance

  • Pedestrian safety task force
    President Destler formed the Pedestrian Safety Task Force as a result of Staff Council constituent concerns regarding use of bikes and longboards on the Quarter Mile.
  • Accelerated implementation of smoking policy
    Staff Council worked with other governance groups including Academic Senate and Student Government to eliminate the 3-year waiting period for implementation proposed in the revised version of C 16.0 Tobacco-Restricted University Policy.

Staff Achievements

  • Stephanie Thompson, senior data scientist, and Richard Dirmyer, assistant vice president of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Strategy at NTID, were invited panelists and paper presenters for SAS Global Forum 2017 in Orlando, Fla.
  • Raman Bhalla and his team from University Web Services won four Interactive Media Outstanding Achievement Awards in February.
  • Students and staff from RIT’s Center for Campus Life’s New Student Orientation program were named “Best Overall Undergraduate Program” by the National Orientation Director Association for Orientation, Transition and Retention.
  • Sharitta Gross-Smith, an Assistant Director in the Multicultural Center for Academic Success, was featured in a Democrat & Chronicle article, RIT manager is still a Woman to Watch - 10 years later.
