In the last year, RIT Staff Council has been pretty busy!
Staff council representatives contributed to the search for RIT’s new president, and participated in the Middle States reaccreditation process. Representatives have also been involved in the Silicon Valley engagement initiative, and the space audit steering committee.
Block captains were created for each of the council’s six blocks to streamline communication and organization. Annual events such as the Staff Awards Ceremony and summer picnic were popular as always, and Staff Council also participated in the RIT Benefits Fair.
In December of 2016, a forum to discuss the Fair Labor Standards Act was organized with then president Dr. Destler and Judy Bender. Staff Council also worked with Human Resources on finalizing the performance appraisal policy, and revising the staff grievance policy. Feedback on many benefits and Human Resource topics was shared with HR, the council, and constituents.
Staff Council advocated for an update to the Institute’s Alma Mater in order to make it more inclusive for our students, faculty, and staff. Representatives worked with RIT’s Better Me program on the tobacco restriction policy implementation on campus. The council also advocated for safety improvements on Royal Farnum Lane.
We have exciting times ahead of us as Dr. Munson takes the helm of the Institute, and your Staff Council looks forward to being a conduit for communication and change.
