What is the Academic Support Center?
The Academic Support Center (ASC) is an academic support unit within the Division of Student Affairs. Since its opening in 1950, the ASC (formerly known as the Learning Development Center) has been serving the education needs of the RIT Community.
Who can use ASC services?
Most ASC services are open and free to all RIT students, including cross-registered NTID students, as well as RIT faculty and staff.
What kinds of services are offered by the ASC?
The ASC works in a variety of ways to increase students' effectiveness as learners. Students learn how to develop basic skills, enhance advanced skills, or cope with the academic environment. The ASC offers classes, workshops in study skills, and alternative learning strategies as well as labs in writing and mathematics.
How do faculty and students know what classes and workshops are being offered?
Each quarter the ASC mails a Quarterly Schedule of classes and workshops to all students and faculty.
What does it cost?
Most ASC services are free to all RIT students, faculty, and staff. The College Restoration Program and Structured Monitoring Program. are fee-based programs.
How can faculty refer students to the ASC?
A student with academic needs in a particular area can be sent directly to the appropriate drop-in location, workshop, or faculty. For information or for schedules of current quarterly offerings, students or faculty may go to the ASC office (01-2309), call 475-6682 (V/TTY). Faculty may also contact any ASC faculty member.
