The ASC Advisory Board

Academic Support Center (ASC) was formerly know as the Learning Development Center (LDC).

In 1999, the Vice President of Student Affairs asked the Learning Development Center to conduct a self-study using the criteria of the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) as benchmarks for Learning Assistance Programs.  Thirteen separate categories were investigated in a year-long process and reported to the Learning Development Center at the 2000 Strategic Planning Day; many of the recommendations of the committees have been discussed and implemented.  In order to meet the goals and standards of CAS, the Committee on Leadership, Organization & Management recommended that the Learning Development Center “should have a broadly constituted advisory board to make suggestions, provide information, and give guidance” (pg. 122, CAS Professional Standards for Higher Education).  To that end, the LDC Advisory Board Committee was formed and met weekly during 2001-2002 to design a model for the Learning Development Center Advisory Board.  At the 2002 Strategic Planning Day, the LDC Advisory Board Committee presented their work.  In 2004, the LDC Advisory Board changed its name to the Academic Support Center Advisory Board to reflect the reorganization of Student Affairs.
