MISSION STATEMENT

CRP utilizes a caring, structured approach to equip students with the ability to set and achieve specific and realistic goals, to make conscious choices that will maximize personal and academic options, to be proactive and in charge of their own learning, performance, and progress, and to be lifelong learners and responsible community members.

DESCRIPTION

The College Restoration Program is a single-quarter academic intervention program for RIT students who are on academic suspension or probation. CRP assesses the academic and developmental factors that interfere with students’ success at RIT. Based on the results of extensive diagnostic assessment, CRP provides an intensive student-centered curriculum that can address math, reading, writing, study skills, time management, critical thinking, problem solving, career exploration, and personal development.

CRP is dedicated to students’ growth and development. The program is constantly evolving to meet the changing needs of students at RIT. Using a holistic approach, faculty work collaboratively to teach students the skills, strategies, and behaviors necessary for academic success. Emphasis is on developing students’ self-awareness, increasing self-appraisal, self-responsibility, self-discipline, and self-regulation, and fostering meaningful, respectful interaction with faculty and peers, both within and outside the classroom.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The purpose of the College Restoration Program is:

  • to assess students’ most significant areas of interference to their academic success in the RIT environment.
  • to provide skills instruction and guided practice in various areas (math, writing, reading, time management, study skills) to increase students’ ability to accurately perceive, actively process, critically evaluate, and meaningfully consolidate college-level material for long-term retention.
  • to equip students with the ability to set and accomplish specific and realistic weekly goals.
  • to coach students in developing greater academic autonomy through increased self-awareness, self-responsibility, self-discipline, and self-regulation.
  • to increase students’ self-esteem by managing effectively their day-to-day lives, doing well academically, and persisting positively in the face of challenge and adversity.
  • to develop meaningful interpersonal relationships with peers and instructors, and to strengthen their ability to work with people different from themselves.
  • to guide students in being proactive and making conscious choices that will maximize their options and allow them to be more in control of their own lives.
