The Academic Support Center (ASC) is devoted to providing academic assistance for students enrolled at RIT, students cross-registered with the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, RIT faculty, and RIT staff. Each quarter, workshops, classes and labs provide instruction in reading, writing, mathematics and study skills.
The ASC has services for all students, from incoming freshmen to graduate students. In addition to basic skill development, the ASC offers courses designed to teach students how to improve their study techniques and how to make the most of their individual learning abilities.
The faculty is characterized by its diversity. ASC faculty members have backgrounds in traditional academic disciplines, as well as professional training and experience in the fields of developmental education and deaf education. Many instructors are regularly invited to serve as adjunct faculty members in the Colleges of Science, Business, Liberal Arts, Continuing Education, CAST and NTID as well as at other Colleges and Universities.
The Academic Support Center faculty work closely with other RIT faculty members to determine how ASC can best provide support for academic courses. This collaboration has led to team-teaching, specialized labs, and effective referral systems. The ASC also maintains liaisons with other support programs on campus to provide a comprehensive network of services.
