What is Structured Monitoring?

In Structured Monitoring, a Learning Specialist monitors students’ academic progress throughout the quarter.  Students who request this additional academic support may sign up for structured monitoring on a quarterly basis.  They are assigned to a Learning Specialist who is familiar with the Institute and with working with different learning styles.  During regularly scheduled meetings or “check-ins,” the student and the Specialist review when assignments are due, study skill strategies, campus resources; create a 10-week calendar, and set up a color-coded organizational system.  Students leave every check-in with a “to-do” sheet listing what to complete by the next session.  At mid-quarter, professors are contacted for progress reports.  Throughout the quarter, students are encouraged to appreciate their own strengths, to find ways to compensate for their weaknesses, and to advocate for their needs.
