Structured Monitoring is a fee-based program offered through the Academic Support Center (ASC). The program provides one-on-one appointments that focus on improving students' academic performance. Students are assigned to a Learning Support Specialist who they may choose to meet with once, twice, or three times a week for one hour. Appointment topics will include: time management, organization, motivation, study skills, planning and prioritizing school work. Students will be encouraged to advocate for themselves and to become increasingly independent at the college level.

ASC Mathematics staffs and trains tutors who work in the Bates Study Center (1200 Gosnell Hall) and Sol Study Center (1016 Sol Heumann Hall) where students receive free, drop-in math and physics tutoring. Math assessment appointments are available to determine areas of strength and weakness in mathematics. The Individualized Math course provides review of algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus topics for students who have had a math assessment.

ASC Reading offers services at no charge to hearing and cross-registered deaf students. Services include formal and informal reading assessment, standardized testing, and strategies to improve vocabulary and reading comprehension.

ASC Study Skills focuses on the development of sound study strategies which promote academic success. Topics such as time management, lecture note taking, text reading and test preparation, are covered in individual sessions with Student Support Specialists and in the popular Academic Success workshop series.

The Tutor Training Program provides tutor training to student tutors who are hired by the various departments, colleges, or learning centers of RIT. The RIT community can learn more about tutorial resources on campus by visiting our web site. Tutor training workshops emphasize “best practices and procedures” in tutoring. Students may be required to attend workshops to better develop their skills as an RIT tutor.

The University Writing Program offers assessment and instruction in college writing through its Writing Center, courses, and workshops. The Writing Center is free. Drop in or make appointments. Several instructors are proficient in sign language.
