Tutor Training Program

The purpose of the RIT Tutor Training Program is to offer workshops that will help student tutors become more skilled with some of the basic principles of tutoring, including listening and questioning skills. Tutors will also learn about individual learning styles and how to best meet the academic needs of a student. Click here to view the tutor training curriculum . These workshops are open to all tutors who are hired by the various departments or learning centers of RIT. The RIT tutor training program does not offer content training.

We recommend that student tutors maintain high academic standing at RIT and earn a grade of A or B in the courses they tutor. Each department and learning center may have its own hiring criteria for peer tutors.

Students may earn tutoring certifications by attending tutor training workshops and by accruing tutoring hours and experience. The more training and experience a tutor has, the higher the status and pay. Click here to view the suggested tutoring pay scale.
