| The ASC Tutor Training Program provides students and faculty and staff with tutoring information and a tutor training program for each of the eight colleges of RIT.
The first goal of this program is to provide the RIT community with a comprehensive and up-to-date web-site that lists all available tutorial services offered on RIT’s campus. This website lists the time, place and type of tutoring available for each department within each of the eight colleges of RIT and describes the process students should use when trying to access the support and assistance of a tutor. This website also lists specialized tutoring centers on campus, such as the ASC, Bates and the Computer Science Learning Center and gives the hours of availability for each of these centers. Students can search for additional pertinent tutoring information either through their college name or department name.
The second goal of this new program is to develop a Tutor Training program for RIT students. Each of the eight colleges of RIT will maintain their autonomy in hiring student tutors for their individual departments but Ms. Julie Cammeron, an experienced teacher and coordinator of this program, will provide these students with both the basic and advanced training needed to become a skilled and competent RIT tutor. At some later date, we hope to develop a certified tutor training program that recognizes the amount of training and experience a student tutor has as a means of determining a tutor’s pay and level of certification (apprentice, experienced and master).
