Getting to know RIT

Now that you've got the lay of the land, what's next? As you navigate the RIT community, you'll explore buildings, learn about academic offerings, and figure out your own studying and learning style. You'll also have an opportunity to meet your academic advisor and discuss the classes that you're interested in taking at RIT. But wait, there's more! You'll have a chance to get involved with social activities and clubs, meet other students, and become fully engaged in the college lifestyle. You can even explore student employment and find a job working on campus!

  • YearOne

Been hearing about YearOne and wondering what it is? YearOne is not your average first year course; it’s more than a course, it’s an experience!

  • Socialize!

89% of first year students have used social media to become engaged on campus. They use technology to meet new people, plan study groups/tutoring sessions, learn about clubs and organizations and events, and participate in campus activities (NSSE 2012).

  • Experience YearOne

YearOne is interactive, peer-led, experiential and self-designed! You’ll learn about the essentials of RIT and how to be a successful student and participating member of the RIT community.

  • Selecting courses

My advisor provided a class schedule for my first semester. In the future, how will I know what courses to take? How will I enroll myself?

  • You're not alone!

First-year students meet with their advisor before self-enrollment for help and guidance. See your advisor in your first semester to discuss plans for the next semester and beyond.

  • Class Enrollment

After meeting with you academic advisor to discuss plans for next semester you will then be cleared to enroll in classes using the Student Information System (SIS).
