Student Life Center

Quarter Mile
This complex is located on the north side of the quarter mile, midway between the dormitories and Student Alumni Union. It services recreational and instructional needs of the community.

Featured in the Student Life Center

  • five multi-purpose courts (basketball, volleyball, badminton)
  • eight racquetball courts (four equipped for wallyball)
  • two dance studios/fitness rooms
  • mini-gym (basketball, volleyball, multi-purpose court)
  • elevated 200 meter jogging track
  • equipment cage (loan-out and towel service)

  • boxing/kick bag room
  • locker rooms with saunas
  • classrooms
  • CPR room
  • overnight equipment rental office

General Rules

  • Proper ID required.
  • Shirt and shoes required.
  • Observe all emergency exit signage.
  • Food and gum are prohibited in activity areas.
  • Flyers and posters must be approved by management.
  • Alcohol and tobacco use are prohibited.
  • RIT is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Pets are not permitted (except for personal access).
  • RIT Members may sponsor up to 3 guests per day.
  • Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • Infants and toddlers are not permitted in activity areas.
  • Solicitation is prohibited.
  • Rules for specific areas are posted on site.
  • Non-compliant individuals may be asked to leave facility or may have
    privileges suspended.
  • Martial arts and fencing activities are only permitted during official club reservation times or sport specific activity class times. All instructors must have Center approval.
  • Violation of rules included here or other policies posted on site, malicious use or defacing of property, spitting, verbal abuse of employees or other violations of institute policy will be investigated by staff, Public Safety and/or local authorities

Fitness Center

Weightroom

The Wiedman Fitness Center is a two-story area that is 16,000 square feet and features a full range of state of the art equipment.

Included are treadmills, ellipticals, step mills, a variety of stationary and spinning bikes, selectorized resistance machines, free weights, multiple adjustable and stationary benches, abdominal training stations, exercise weighted balls and exercise balls, large stretching areas, power lifting stations and multi-station lifting areas.

Along with this wide variety of equipment, the Fitness Center also provides the following general services: free nutritional counseling, student attendants to provide basic usage information for the fitness equipment, personal training courses for students (through the Wellness Instructional Program), and personal training services for faculty and staff (through the faculty staff Better Me program).  

Fitness center tours, and general fitness center orientation programs are also offered upon request.  Contact us for tours and programs.

General Rules

  • Use of the facility is prohibited without a staff member present.
  • Appropriate workout attire is required:  shirt, no open-toed shoes, no shorts/pants with buckles, zippers or buttons. 
  • Food and gum are prohibited.
  • Cell phone use is prohibited while using equipment.
  • Coats, bags, racquets and other sport equipment are prohibited.
  • Children under 14 are not permitted to access the workout area.
  • Report injuries and equipment problems to an attendant.
  • Read the posted instructions on the equipment prior to use.
  • Use proper safety measures and spotters when appropriate.
  • Collars are required at all times when using free weights.
  • Olympic lifts and overhead lifts are prohibited except in full racks.
  • Do not drop or slam weights.
  • Chalk use is only permitted in specified areas.
  • Spinning bikes are the only bikes that can be used in a standing position.
  • Do not adjust TVs yourself.  See attendant for assistance.
  • Do not remove any equipment from the fitness center.
  • Non-compliant individuals may be asked to leave or may have privileges suspended.

Aquatics Center

The Pool

The Judson/Hale Aquatics Center is a 27,000 square foot facility which includes a stretch 25-yard, eight-lane competition pool with moveable bulkhead, a four-board diving well, and four team locker rooms. 

Recreation Pool

The recreation pool includes a current channel, vortex, bubble jets, water basketball and volleyball.  A 20 person hot tub is also available in this area of the Center. 

General Rules

  • All swimmers must sign in.
  • All swimmers must wear proper swimwear to enter pool; no street clothes.
  • Children under the age of 4 are prohibited from using the pools.
  • Children ages 4-15 must be closely supervised by an adult at all times.
  • Food, drink, chewing gum, and glass containers are prohibited in the pool area.
  • Pool use is prohibited during closed hours.
  • Pollution of pool is prohibited (urination, fecal matter, blowing nose, etc).
  • Prolonged underwater breath-holding is prohibited.
  • No open cuts/sores allowed in the water.
  • Absolutely NO swimming under the bulkhead.
  • Starting block use is prohibited during recreation swim times.
  • Areas of the Aquatics Center will be opened/closed at the discretion of the head lifeguard.

Red Barn

Red Barn
This facility is located at the west end of campus and houses Interactive Adventures programs.  The Red Barn consists of a 32-foot top-roping wall and extensive bouldering areas.   The entrance is through Riverknoll apartments off Kimball Drive.

 

Clark Gym


Clark Gym
The Clark Gym is primarily used by intercollegiate athletic teams. However,

some wellness programs are also conducted here.

Located adjacent to the Student Alumni Union, the Clark complex includes:

  • Main Gymnasium
  • Auxiliary GymnasiumWrestling Room
  • Weight Room (Varsity)
  • Training Room (Varsity)
  • Equipment Room 

Ice Arena

Icerink
North of Clark Gymnasium, the arena is a first class venue for ice hockey, figure skating classes, and recreational skating. It serves as the home of RIT's Hockey Teams, as well as the Genesee Figure Skating Club.

Boathouse

tThe Boathouse
Located on the Genesee River off of East River Road, this facility houses

the RIT Men's and Women's Crew program.
