Many Interactive adventure courses and programs take place in the Red Barn, located at the far west end of the RIT campus. This particular structure is a rare and unique Wells Barn, built near the turn of the 20th century. While once a home for hay and dairy cows, the Red Barn now houses an indoor ropes course, a 32ft. high climbing wall, and an extensive bouldering* area. Typically, the main upstairs climbing wall is closed during the winter months, as the main floor of the barn is not heated. Team building sessions, however, may be scheduled throughout the year. The basement bouldering area is also open year-round.
Other utilized facilities are RIT's
boathouse
and indoor pool.
Activity courses also take place at many locations
beyond the walls of RIT. Destinations include
the ski and hiking trails of local parks, lakes,
rivers of western New York, rock cliffs of the
Niagara escarpment in Canada, mountains of the
Adirondacks and many other surrounding natural
resources.
*Bouldering is the sport of climbing without ropes or equipment other than shoes and chalk. Typically, climbing takes place closer to the found and may involve traverses that would allow for a relatively safe, controllable and padded fall.
