Sigung Duteau
Mr. Duteau began his training in the Martial Arts at the age of 6 in his native country of France under the tutelage of Judo Master Robert Lessere. Sigung Duteau subsequently studied Shoryn Ryu Karate in Japan, Moy Sen Toy Kung Fu and Bak Mei Kung Fu in Hong Kong. Access to these instructors and masters was no doubt helped due to the fact that his parents were diplomats at the French embassy in the Far East. In 1967, Mr. Duteau came to the United States where he continued his Martial Art training with Grand Master A. Lee of N.Y. City. This became Mr. Duteau's favorite style due to its deep traditional and philosophical aspects. Mr. Duteau arrived in Rochester in 1976. Although Mr. Duteau is a professional in the engineering field, he dedicates his time passing on the knowledge, discipline and respect of Chinese Kung Fu to his students at the main academy and through the Rochester Institute of Technology physical education department. Sigung Duteau has presented various local and statewide exhibitions with his students and has appeared on television shows and in national magazines.
Sifu Austin
Sifu Austin Baddeley started in the RIT Kung Fu program under Sigung Jean Duteau in 1991 when he entered college. Prior to college he had studied several styles and had trained for over 10 years giving him a wide base of knowledge from which to draw upon. Completing his degree at RIT and finding work in the area enabled him to stay with the school and progress to the level of Senior Student that he holds today. After helping to create and host the original school website, Austin is excited about the new look and life this revision has brought to the site, giving new students and old an opportunity to learn more about the Academy and traditions. He hopes that some of the past students will find their way back to the site and have a chance to tell what they have been up to since they left the school. Sifu Austin heads the Monday beginners class and the Friday self defense class, while continuing his own training in the Thursday advanced class. He currently holds third rank in the system and is continuing to train towards his fourth rank test.
Sifu Jen
Sifu Jen Trezza is originally from eastern New York, about an hour south of Albany. She came to Rochester in 1993 to attend RIT's photography school. She has always had an interest in martial arts but never had the chance to study Kung Fu before coming to RIT. She started taking Kung Fu her freshman year, when it quickly became a high point in her life. After completing her degree, she stayed in the area and continued studying kung fu, allowing her to progress to the level where she became an instructor. Sifu Jen has been studying with Sigung Jean Duteau for many years now and has attained her third rank.
Sihing Bryan
Sihing Bryan Loughman is a recent alumnus of the computer science program here at RIT. He began studying Shaolin Kung Fu under Sigung Jean Duteau around 1998. His interest in martial arts, especially Shaolin Kung Fu, began at an early age. Despite the interest, however, he has never really had a chance to study until he came to RIT. When he discovered the Kung Fu school on campus, Sihing Bryan saw a great opportunity to learn some self defense and get into shape. But, it quickly developed into much, much more. Sihing Bryan not only gained the knowledge and experience, but also found a wonderful appreciation for Kung Fu as an art, and as a way of life. In a few short months, he became an assistant and eventually moved on to teaching classes. Currently, Sihing Bryan is one of the Saturday morning instructors for the beginners class and enjoys it very much, because they learn as much from him as he does from them.
