The Disability Services Office is committed to providing
equal access to programs, services and physical facilities
to students with disabilities. Our responsibilities consist
of the following services for hearing students and deaf students
with additional disabilities:
Approve and coordinate academic and residential accommodations
due to a disability
- Testing modifications and text books in alternate format,
for example
- Modified housing arrangements
Make referrals to campus service providers
- Student Health Services
- Food Service
- Parking and Transportation
- Housing Operations
We do not coordinate personal services. Students need to
make their own arrangements for the following:
- Mobility training
- Personal care assistants
- Personal adaptive equipment such as TTYs or wheelchairs
Service Animals and Hearing dogs
Requests for utilizing a trained and certified "service
animal" or "hearing dog" on campus must be
directed to the Disability Services Director, who will determine
if the use of the dog is a reasonable and appropriate accommodation
due to the disability. Requests can be made by submitting
the "Request for Accommodations Form". Documentation
of disability, the specific need the dog will fulfil, and
verification of the dogs training in providing for that needl
are required. Since RIT residences are equipped with strobed
fire alarms and door bells, a hearing dog is not considered
to be required for these functions.
Instructions
To request accommodations due to a disability, please submit
a completed Disability Services Request Form and documentation
