Lake Ontario is one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world. As the last lake in the Great Lakes' hydrologic chain it is an important freshwater fishery and also supports many wetlands and aquatic plants. One of the best ways to learn about the lake is to spend a day fishing in the big blue waters of mid Lake Ontario 20+ miles offshore. Late summer (August/September) is the time big salmon (20-30 pounds) are feeding the most. Arm stretching runs and line battles can be brisk or last over 20 minutes of fun. This is the time of the year to catch the fish of a lifetime, meet friends, and take that picture with a huge fish. In the 2015 program, every student stepped out of the boat with a fish on each hand and fish to spare.
