“My instructor had us engaged in each class and combined discussion, group work, and lecture very effectively. We were able to gain a lot of information regarding RIT, work habits, and major/professional related skills.”
What do you do in FYE anyway?
FYE is a one-credit class that meets once-a-week to discuss student related topics. In the Fall Quarter (FYE l) our classes provide students with insider knowledge about RIT, such as, where to find student resources, how to navigate registration, and managing your time in the 10-week quarter. In the winter quarter (FYEll), the classes will focus more on career and professional skills, as well as working in multidisciplinary groups. We also want students to think critically about their goals so they can make the most of the educational and social opportunities that lie ahead of them.
What can I expect from coaching in FYE?
You will meet at least once with your FYE instructor in the fall and winter quarters. You are welcome to meet more frequently if you choose to do so. We provide coaching on academic, personal, and social issues. Coaching creates an opportunity for you to form a meaningful connection to an RIT professional. We believe that this individualized attention and collaboration will help you to better achieve your goals and increase the likelihood of your success here at RIT.
How do I register for FYE?
Students are automatically registered into their FYE classes. You do not have to register yourself.
Can I change my FYE section?
If you have a conflict with FYE on your schedule, please go to the FYE office and they will assist you.
Is a book required?
There is no required textbook for FYE.
