Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. was established on April 16, 1988 at Cornell University. It was founded by five strong women who were seeking an organization that would transcend their collegiate experience and would encompass the experiences of all women.
Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. seeks to unify women through the promotion of community service programs that highlight the contributions of women and people of color, and offer opportunities for academic and professional advancement to members of historically under-represented groups.
Though Latina based, Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. is not Latina exclusive. We have a diverse Hermandad (Sisterhood) and welcome inquiry about our organization from all women.
The Lambda Chapter of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority Inc. was established at the University of Rochester on March 20, 1999 by three remarkable women. Today Lambda Chapter stands on a league of its own. With current and/or graduate Hermanas (Sisters) from U of R, RIT, SUNY Brockport, SUNY Geneseo, and St. John Fisher, it has become the strongest Latina force in the city of Rochester and dedicated itself to fulfilling all of the ideals our Hermandad was founded upon.
