Global Union/AALANA Collegiate Association Halloween
Party
SAT. OCT. 27 @ Clark Gym, from 9PM - 2AM
In the spirit of Halloween, we will be having our first annual
Halloween dance! It is a costume party, so come dressed to
impress--there will be prizes! Namely, gift cards for the
Best Cultural Costume and Most Creative Costume valued at
$300 and $150 respectively. Entrance is free, bring your friends

International Education Week Photo Contest - WEEK 8 -
10
Global Union is holding its annual Photo Contest, and the
theme of this year's contest is cultural fusion. This means
that more than one culture should be displayed in the frame
and we leave the rest of the interpretation up to you! If
you have a photo you'd like to enter for the contest, you
can do so on the website at http://www.rit.edu/gu . The first,
second and third place will receive a $100 Campus Connections
gift card, $50 Campus Connections gift card and $30 gift card
to Java Wally's respectively. Submission deadline is noon
on Wednesday, November 7, 07.
International Student Services Survey on Cultural Diversity
International Student Services is doing a survey on cultural
diversity and would like your input! If you could take a couple
of minutes to fill out a brief survey before MONDAY, OCT.

Thanksgiving
Thursday, November 22nd will mark the American Thanksgiving
holiday. Thanksgiving is generally observed by family gatherings
with a large dinner. If you would like to be invited to join
a family for its Thanksgiving Dinner, send an email to Judy
Weinstein, Rochester International Council Executive Director,
at jw@rifc.org.
Google Group
Rochester International Council has just set up a Google Group
to send notices to international students about upcoming events
and other notices. If you received an invitation and would
like to join the group, just follow the link to join. If you
did not receive the invitation or don't want to open a Google
account, send an email to jw@rifc.org and you will be added
directly to the group.
Foreign Language Notetakers Needed
Any international students who would be interested in taking
notes for a Foreign Language course, both at the beginning
and advanced levels, should read the rest of this announcement.
Notes are taken with a system called TabletPC - a computerized
notetaking system that requires 1-2 hours of training, plus
the student would need to train with our on line notetaking
training system also. Both activities are paid activities
as preparation for taking notes.
The following courses will need note takers for Winter:

Advanced German II MTWR 12-1 pm

Tour of Mt. Hope Cemetery & Afternoon Tea
Date: Sunday, October 28
Tour: 1:00 - 3:00 pm
Tea: 3:00 - 4:00 pm
Location: Meet promptly at 1pm at the North Gatehouse on
Mt. Hope Avenue (across from Robinson Drive).
Reservations are required, as the tour is limited to 25 participants.

Details: The tour offers a quick, witty history of Rochester
based on its famous dead. Learn about the founding of our
city, its famous inventors, and its role in American history.
Then gather in a nearby home afterwards for tea, cakes, and
conversation. After a brief explanation of the Halloween tradition,
participants will design and carve a Halloween pumpkin.
*The tour will be cancelled only in heavy rain. Please wear
comfortable walking shoes, a warm coat, and bring an umbrella.

The Art of Mehndi
Global Union, a Major Student Organization on campus, presents
their first Cultural Exchange Session of the academic year!
The Art of Mehndi, commonly referred to as Henna in the U.S.,
has been practiced in India for centuries. Come join us as
we learn about this Indian body art, how Henna is made, and
why and when it is used to decorate the body. You are then
invited to choose an Indian pattern to apply the Mehndi to
your hand! Traditional Indian snacks will be served.

Visit to the Public Market

9:00 am departure from campus -- Return by noon.
You will be picked up on campus and taken to the Public Market.
Rochester's 102 year old Public Market, is one of the oldest
in the nation. Bargains abound Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
You will discover an inexpensive source of produce from local
farms, foods from around the world, and a gathering of Rochesterians
from around the world. You'll find fresh fruit, meat, fish,
poultry (live and prepared), eggs, dairy products, home-baked
goods, seasonal produce, flowers, plants, jewelry, dry goods,
paintings, crafts, specialty foods, ethnic delicacies, decorative
items, curiosities and bargains, bargains, bargains.
There are a limited number of seats for this tour, so sign
