all international students to have health insurance before
they can register for classes. All full and part-time international
students registered at RIT will be automatically enrolled
in the RIT Basic Student and Accident Insurance Policy unless
otherwise exempted. More information about this is
available in the How Do I Get Health Insurance? section of this website and in the Student Health Center.
Foreign students are strongly urged to provide insurance coverage for their dependents, and may enroll them (spouse and children from 30 days of age to 19 years) for the same coverage they have. The RIT policy is specifically designed for RIT students and their families. In designing this policy, the Institute has tried to strike a reasonable balance between cost and comprehensiveness of coverage.
If you wish to have insurance which provides greater coverage than the RIT plan you may do so. If you already have insurance and do not wish to purchase the RIT policy, you may obtain a waiver from the Student Health Center by providing proof of purchase, dates of validity, proof of repatriation coverage and other details. J-1 students are also required to have additional specific types of coverage.
