WELCOME
TO THE NORTH STAR CENTER FOR
ACADEMIC SUCCESS & CULTURAL AFFAIRS
(part of the Division of
Student Affairs)
Established in 2000, we serve all students at
RIT, regardless of ethnic background, but primarily
exist to improve student retention and graduation
rates of African American, Latin American, and
Native American (AALANA) students at Rochester
Institute of Technology.
At
the heart of the North Star Center is the development
of the whole person. As such, we are committed
to the intellectual, character, psychosocial and
physical development of students.
We focus on the importance
of promoting a deeper understanding of what it
takes to live in a rapidly changing and highly
interdependent world where science and technology
are transforming the globe. Students are encouraged
to excel academically, and enhance their ethical/character
development while learning about their own and
other cultures.
In addition to being an academic support unit, we
emphasize and support student development through
personal advising, advocacy, leadership development
opportunities, cultural diversity education,
cultural programming and a connection to campus
and community resources. This philosophical approach
encourages students to better understand themselves
and others, and the rich inheritance that comes
from living in a global and pluralistic society.
Please come back often to stay connected. We
want this site to serve you, so feel free to provide
us with feedback at nscenter@rit.edu. |
