Each incoming first-year student is assigned to a group of 15-20 new students from their respective college, led by an upper-class student who is serving as an Orientation Assistant (OA). The OA serves as their guide and mentor during the week-long orientation program. OA's help new students make their transition to RIT by:
- Helping them understand the challenges of college
- Connecting them with students, faculty and staff
- Educating them about important Institute programs and services
- Sharing a common experience with other new students
- Fostering school spirit
- Introducing them to the greater Rochester community
Chosen through a competitive recruitment process, OA's are crucial in helping the professional Orientation Staff in implementing and evaluating all aspects of the New Student Orientation Program. They represent both their individual colleges and RIT as a whole.
