Activate your RIT computer account:
Active your RIT Computer Account: Once you have paid your deposit, you will receive an e-mail with a link to create your RIT Computer Account. Your RIT computer account is your key to accessing RIT email, the myRIT Portal, personal web pages, site licensed software, online grading and registration (SIS), library services, your department's web page and so much more.
If you have difficulty with your RIT account or accessing any RIT online service, support is available. Contact the ITS HelpDesk at 585-475-4357 (TTY: 585-475-2810) or through HelpDesk Online.
Forward your RIT E-mail if using another account: Institute departments, as well as faculty, use RIT e-mail to contact students. If you decide to not use your RIT account, be sure to forward your mail or you may miss vital information. Details on forwarding e-mail can be found at start.rit.edu.
Register Your Vehicle: If you are bringing a vehicle to the RIT campus to stay for the academic year, you will need to register it either on-line or in person during orientation.
Identification to Bring with You:
To obtain your RIT ID Card at the Office of the Registrar, you will need one of the following:
- driver’s license
- learner’s permit
- high school ID
- passport (can be expired)
To obtain your Student Employment Office (SEO) Employment Eligibility Card (needed to work on campus), U. S. citizens will need to bring the following:
- driver's license or RIT ID card AND
- birth certificate or Social Security Card
- OR a U.S. passport (can be expired)
International students will need to bring:
- passport with visa AND I-20 or DS-2019
ALL documents must be original - no photocopies can be accepted.
To open a bank account, you will need one of the following:
- temporary or permanent driver’s license
- U.S. , foreign passport or Alien Registration Card
- Armed Forces ID
NOTE: all of the above identification must be originals, photocopies cannot be accepted.
Students who live nearby are encouraged to get their ID and SEO cards prior to Orientation.

Locate off-campus housing if needed (transfer students only):
Visit the “Living Off-Campus” section of our Useful Links for Students and Families page for apartment listings.
Complete and Return the Health Form: All students receive a Health History Form in their Admissions packet. Be sure to return it to the Student Health Center; you won’t be able to register for classes if it has not been returned. Lost your form? No problem, it’s available online .
Review the College Health Survival Kit: Here you will find the Student Health Center’s helpful list of health related items to bring to campus.
Request Final Transcripts: All entering first year students should request that their school counselor send a FINAL transcript (indicating date of graduation) to RIT. All transfer students enrolled in another college must submit final transcripts. If you will receive a degree prior to enrollment at RIT, final transcripts must indicate the degree. When all your classes are completed, ask your Registrar to send transcripts to: Undergraduate Admissions Office, Rochester Institute of Technology, 60 Lomb Memorial Drive, Rochester, NY 14623-5604.
Notify your department of any AP or college courses you have taken.

Sign up for eBilling: The University has implemented an electronic billing (eBill) program for students. eBills have replaced paper bills statements. Each quarter, all RIT students will receive an e-mail notification to their official university email account, stating that their eBill is available. Students have the option of selecting three additional email addresses to allow for a parent, guardian, sponsor, or other authorized user to receive eBill notifications. Additional information can be found on the Student Financial Services web site (formerly Bursar’s Office).
