The Orientation Staff would like to extend a special welcome to our commuter students. Some of you may feel that you already know RIT and may be tempted to skip Orientation – don’t!. Here’s why you should come to Orientation; it’s not about the campus, it’s about the CONNECTIONS. Orientation is your opportunity to meet and get to know your fellow students, as well as the faculty and staff who will play a crucial role in your success at RIT. We have a week of events that are designed to help you make connections easily, as well as, learn how to get the most out of all that RIT has to offer.
All commuter students are expected to attend Orientation activities. Commuting students should register for Orientation at the Orientation Welcome Center in the Gordon Field House and Activities Center on either:
| Sunday, August 30, 2009 |
9:00am – 6:00pm |
| Monday, August 31, 2009 |
7:45am – 4:00pm |
|
You will receive your Orientation schedule and other materials at the Welcome Center.
Commuter Schedule Highlights
Sunday, August 30
As Sunday is move-in day for residence hall students, coming to campus this day is optional for commuter students; however, we strongly encourage you and your family to visit that day so that you can attend the Resource Fair in the Gordon Field House and Activities Center. It’s a great opportunity to meet with staff representing departments and services from across the Institute, get your questions answered, and find out about all that RIT has to offer you.
Sunday evening, families are invited to attend the President’s Meet and Mingle.
Monday, August 31
The action for commuter students begins on Monday, with the “Convocation for New Students and Families,” the official opening of the academic year. Plan to arrive at the Gordon Field House and Activities Center by 9:00am. A continental breakfast will be available for you and your family. Orientation Assistants will be available to usher you to reserved seating with your college. Commuter students and their families will be together for events throughout the day on Monday.
“Meet Your Orientation Assistant (OA)” at 7:00pm on Monday is a required event, for students only. You’ll meet your OA, as well as, the group of students from your college that you’ll be spending the week of Orientation with.
