Getting to & Around Campus

For those arriving by plane, at the Greater Rochester International Airport, you may contract a taxi to transport you to campus. The taxi pick up is located outside the baggage claim area of the terminal. The taxi fare for the trip from the airport to RIT will cost you approximately $20.
For those arriving at the train depot, you may obtain a taxi to transport you to campus. As you exit the train depot taxis are generally lined up to the left of the depot. If a taxi is not available, the staff at the ticket window will call a taxi for you. The taxi fare for the trip from the train depot to RIT will cost you approximately $20.
For those arriving at the bus station, you may contract a taxi to transport you to campus. Taxis are generally parked in front of the bus station. If a taxi is not available, the staff at the ticket window will call a taxi for you. The taxi fare for the trip from the bus station to RIT will cost you approximately $20.
Shuttle Service – On-campus
RIT Parking and Transportation Services operate ADA compliant shuttle buses throughout campus. Please see their website for detailed information and schedules.
Wheelchairs
We do not have wheelchairs available on campus. If you would like to rent a wheelchair, you may contact Southside Medical Supply (585) 271-7141, Monroe Wheelchair at (585) 546-8595, or Fonte Surgical Supply at (585) 338-1000 or (800) 836-2130.
Move in to RIT Housing
Transfer students living in RIT owned housing, including NTID supported BA/BS students, will move in on Thursday, September 3, 2009. (Transfer students attending the NTID Summer Vestibule Program (SVP) will move in on Saturday, August 22, 2009.)
Starting August 1st, you can go to the Housing Operations website and click on “Housing Confirmation” to get specific information on your housing assignment. Please follow instructions for move-in to ensure a smooth and comfortable process for everyone. The Housing Operations Office is open from 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday and can be reached at (585) 475-2572 or online at housing@rit.edu.
Specialized Move-in Dates
Some RIT students are affiliated with groups who have an early move-in date and/or a specialized orientation program in addition to the Orientation program. Specific information from the coordinators/directors of these programs will be sent separately.
Move-in Day Checklist
- get settled in your room/apartment
- register your vehicle, either online or in person at the Parking and Transportation Services Office, Bldg. 25, Grace Watson Hall
- get your UID (University ID) at the Registrar's Office, Bldg. 1, George Eastman.
- get your Student Employment Card if you want to work on campus, Administrative Services Bldg.
- See the Before You Arrive page for identification needed to obtain your UID and Student Employment cards.
- local banks will be on campus on Friday, September 4, to open accounts
