We are delighted to have you join the RIT community and we are here to help you make a smooth transition. Transfer Welcome is not like your freshman orientation at your previous school. We know that you’ve already been a college student somewhere and are most likely past the “freshman jitters.” RIT is different! Transfer Welcome is designed to give you the information you need to know about what makes us unique and to give you the tools to navigate your new campus. Our goal is to help you make connections with faculty, staff and other students and to help you kick-start your success as an RIT student. Transfer Welcome includes an initial orientation-type program with academic advising, resource fairs, a student job fair, Week of Welcome (WOW) social events in the evenings, a Welcome Reception, and much more.
But first, to get started on your path to success at RIT, we encourage you to join us for one of our Transfer Welcome programs offered on Monday, July 20 or Friday, September 4, 2009. You only need to attend one! Program activities will include a welcome by President Destler, a Resource and Housing Fair (on July 20 only), various interest sessions, lunch, college advising, and optional campus tours. This is a great opportunity for you to make your first connection with RIT, get your questions answered, and meet other new transfer students.
Online registration for these programs is open now. A tentative schedule for the Transfer Welcome can be found in the "New Student Survival Guide" which will be mailed in late May. This comprehensive Guide will include all of the information you will need prior to arrival on campus. Follow-up mailings will be done periodically for students who are accepted during the summer.
To assist you in your first few days on campus, we will have Welcome Tables in the lobby of the Student Alumni Union (SAU), Bldg. 4, the first three days of the quarter (September 7-9, 2009) from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The tables will be staffed by the Division of Student Affairs and will have campus maps, resource materials, internet access, and the ability to answer any questions or direct you to the appropriate resources. Feel free to stop by if you have any questions and look for the people in the “Welcome New Students!” shirts.
To wrap up the Transfer Welcome series there will be a Welcome Reception from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm September 18, 2009 in the RITz Sports Zone, which is located on the A-level of the Student Alumni Union (SAU), Bldg. 4,. Please drop by this social event that will include refreshments and some fun activities designed to help you meet other new students.
