Residence Life: Where Living & Learning Come Together.
Mission
The Center for Residence Life is committed to the promotion of the university’s academic mission and the quality of campus life by creating and supporting living-learning opportunities that enhance individual development, value diversity and promotes a sense of campus community. Residence Life is concerned with developing communities that respect the dignity of all persons and foster the well being and safety of others.
Who is Residence Life?
Residence Life is composed of 136 paraprofessionals (111 Resident Advisors, 8 Global Village Resident Advisors, 11 Community Advocates, 5 House Managers and a Peer Advocate), 19 Student Affairs administrators and 7 staff assistants). The department is composed of a central office and five (5) area offices; three(3) offices in the residence halls and two (2) offices in the apartment area. At each level, Residence Life creates and supports living and learning opportunities that enhance individual development and promote a sense of campus community.
Living on campus contributes to academic success!
Numerous studies have indicated that students who live on campus persist and succeed in college better than their commuting counterparts. Even when controlled for pre-college characteristics, “living on campus still exerted a statistically significant positive influence on persistence and completion of the bachelor’s degree.” Research points to the importance of ‘engagement’ or the degree to which the student interacts and participates on campus. Living on campus can give you a jump start on getting immersed into college life! (For more information refer to the book How College Affects Students by Pascarella and Terenzini, 1991).
