Man Eating Bugs - Cimex lectularius

by: Christopher Samp

They long for blood, waiting with their sharp beaks ready to pierce the skin of their host. As you sleep, they begin to feed, injecting fluid into your body in the middle of the night. You wake up in the morning baffled, with dozens of reddened areas to itch! You may have a case of bedbugs. Cimex lectularius is another phase for the unpleasant bedbugs that nestle in your mattress and in your carpet.

Bedbugs can find their way into your apartment from a variety of sources. Many bedbugs hitchhike into luggage from travels. Some are found hidden in furniture such as mattresses and couches that were given away, found at the dumpster, or brought home from a local garage sale. If bedbugs are found at your apartment, Housing Operations will contract with an exterminator to treat your unit. Unfortunate victims will be required to launder all clothing and bedding in hot, soapy water, and to vacuum thoroughly to avoid reinfestation. Keep your apartment sanitary by disposing of garbage promptly, vacuuming carpets, and washing bed linens frequently. Don’t let the bedbugs bite as you sleep through the night!
