HOUSING SELECTION 2009 – THE RENEWAL PROCESS
by: Carla DiLella, Associate Director & Rona Skinner, Assistant Director, Housing Operations
The renewal process is for students who currently live in an apartment, University Commons suite, or at the RIT Inn. This process gives you the opportunity to renew your housing contract for your current assignment for the 2009-2010 academic year.
You must meet all the deadlines and criteria in order for a renewal to be processed for you.
January 26 One person from your apartment, suite, or room must pick up the renewal packet this day between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm at the proper location:
• Perkins Green and Colony Manor packets are available at the Housing Operations office in Grace Watson
• Riverknoll, Racquet Club, and University Commons packets are available at the Housing Operations office at 113 Kimball Drive
• RIT Inn packets are available at the front desk at the RIT Inn
Open your packet immediately as you may be qualified to participate in the online Express Renewal. This process will save you lots of time and energy if you qualify. Express renewal is Housing Operations’ online renewal process that takes just one minute per resident for those who qualify. Qualifying residents can complete their express renewals online at http://myhousing.rit.edu from January 26 through February 6, 2009.
You must meet the following criteria to be eligible for express renewal:
• Your apartment/suite must be at full occupancy at the time of sign up.
• The same residents must be returning to the same apartment/suite.
• All residents must be eligible for housing. No residents can be graduating, no residents can have holds on his/her student account, and no residents can owe money to RIT.
If all residents qualify, each resident must submit an express renewal application at http://myhousing.rit.edu.
Each resident in his/her apartment suite will be contacted via his/her RIT email account with the status of his/her renewal request no later than Sunday, February 8.
If you live alone in an apartment and you do not want to renew the apartment you can also save time by using Express Renewal.
Go online between January 26 and February 6 at http://myhousing.rit.edu and submit an express renewal form that you have completed as “not renewing.” This will only take about two minutes and you won’t have to visit the Housing Office.
For those of you who do not qualify for Express Renewal, you will need to attend Renewal Sign Up – see dates, times, and location below. You are responsible for opening your packet and reading the instructions on how to prepare to participate in the sign-up. You must arrive at your sign-up prepared with properly completed paperwork.
There will have a huge demand for housing for the 2009-2010 academic year, so housing will be given to students who are qualified and meet the deadlines.
