Chocolate On Ice

by: Sharon Kompalla, Assistant Director
For the past several years, the Center for Residence Life Apartment Area and the NTID Student Life Team have collaborated on a very successful programming initiative known as Chocolate On Ice.  Both a social program for RIT students and a community service project, Chocolate On Ice combines ice skating and chocolate themed activities and snacks along with a canned food drive to benefit FoodLink.  This year’s program took place on December 6th from 11pm until 1am in the Ritter Ice Arena and Auxiliary Gym and over 600 students came out to support this Winter quarter tradition.  In addition to collecting 3 large barrels of non-perishable items for FoodLink, Chocolate On Ice was also a memorial tribute to Terry Mackin Jr, a recent NTID graduate who suddenly passed away in Fall.  Terry was a member of the dance troupe, Flux Fusion, and the group performed at Chocolate On Ice, which also was Terry’s birthday, to honor his memory and to raise funds for the Terry Mackin Jr. Scholarship.  Thank you to the following campus offices and student organizations for their co-sponsorship and participation in the event: Student Government, RHA (Residence Hall Association), OCASA (Off-Campus and Apartment Student Association), The Bader Team, the Center for Campus Life, Brick City Singers and Flux Fusion.
